CamMe

This is a fun app for your iPhone or iPad that allows you to take "selfies" remotely.  There is a short video that gives you some instruction but there still seems to be a small learning curve.  I highly recommend it...it's fun.

Here are a few of ours...

Dan seems surprised that it really worked
I didn't know Wendy was practicing ;o)

All Good Things Must Come to an End

and so it is.  Wendy and Dan headed home today after a great visit.  I'm always reminded how much I miss her (and the rest of my family) when I'm down here.  As hard as it is to leave when the time comes, it's nice to be home and closer to everyone.

We were up early and on the road by 8:30.  Stopped again at the rest area near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, I love that place.
Got them to the airport with plenty of time to spare.  They needed to change their seats on the first flight, so earlier was better.  We didn't stick around until their flight left but said good-bye at the tram; we weren't allowed to go to the gate anyway.

Thanks for visiting with us, we had a great time and hope you will come again!

Love you both.

Wendy Comes to Visit...day 8 (and so does Dan)

We started the day by walking from the bank to Linear Park so Dan could see the alligator.  Wendy & Dan walked a lot faster than we did and got their first but, alas, the alligator was no where to be seen.  We had a lot of rain yesterday and the canal was quite full so he could have been anywhere.  Bummer!

We left the house around 11:00 and drove to Venice, about a 45 minute drive, to Segway Venice.  Once we found the place, we had time to get lunch before our appointment at 1:00.  We found a little pizza place that served it by the slice, which made it quick.
We grabbed an outside table, each ordered a slice, which was actually the size of two slices and a soda.
Wendy found the Segway tours on Groupon, which saved us quite a bit of money.
I love Groupon!
There was the four of us and one other gentleman in the group.  We had to complete some paperwork and watch a safety video, with very realistic stick figures, before going outside for some one-on-one instruction regarding how to ride the Segway.  If you can stand on your feet for an hour or so and have any kind of balance at all, you, too, can ride a Segway.

We rode along the Legacy Trail, which is a wide, flat, paved path, stopping at a nice park for a break.
Someone is showing off!

Even when you are stopped, the Segway is still running so the only thing that keeps you stopped is you aren't leaning forward or back so you stay in one place.
My only complaint was that we didn't get a chance to stop to take more pictures and that we got back in about 1 1/2 hours, rather than 2. Otherwise, it was really fun.  Wendy took a great "selfie" video of her and Dan but I can't figure out how to copy it.  She did post it on FB.

From there we went back to the main strip to do a little window shopping and get gelatos...
These are sooooo good.

We have lighthouses, they have turtles and dolphins.

After looking through a few of the shops, very overpriced shops, we still had time available so we drove to the jetty.  Bill and I have been there several times but have never seen such large waves and so many surfers.  We walked to the end of the jetty and took pictures, just like tourists do ;o)

wait for it, wait for it...
didn't even get wet
What a fun afternoon.  Relaxed a little when we got home, then went to TT's Tiki Hut for a drink
and a walk to the bridge for the sunset.

THEN, they treated us to dinner at a "new to us" restaurant, Torch Bistro. The food was surprisingly good, although we got there at the end of their day, close to 9:00.  We would definitely go again.

Wendy Comes to Visit...Day 7 (and so does Dan)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Out-takes
These were taken with the iPad and the CamMe app.  I will be talking about this in an upcoming post.

We enjoyed an easy day with no specific plans.  It was cloudy but warm enough to sit on the deck.  After breakfast we parked at the new Hurricane Charley's, Wendy and Dan walked over the bridge and back to TT's Tiki Hut along the Harborwalk.  We walked Titan to the hospital and back, took him home and joined them for a beverage.  The three of us enjoyed a great rum punch drink and Bill had a soda.  Thank you, Dan.

We ate lunch at home, Wendy and Dan took a nap, Bill did some reading and I worked on the computer.  We had pesto chicken for dinner thanks to Bill.

After dinner we headed to Fisherman's Village to listen to Emily Ann Thompson, a Celtic fiddler.  It was quite busy as the Lee County Pipes and Drums were leaving and a lot of people stayed.  It took awhile but Wendy and Dan were persistent and finally scored a table at the Village Fish Market.  They had drinks, we shared a chocolate cake dessert and coffee.

On the way out, we stopped at the candy store, which Bill and I have never entered and Dan bought each of us a chocolate truffle.  Much to his surprise, they were $3 EACH.  Ouch!  However, they were delicious, as they should be for that price.

Wendy Comes to Visit...Day 6 (and so does Dan)

This was a busy day!

Wendy and Dan dropped us off at the bank to walk the dog and they went to the farmer's market at the History Park.  We walked to the Linear Park and back, arriving with a few minutes to spare before they picked us up.

Duded up in my St. Patrick's Day finest.
We dropped the dog off at home and headed to Ft. Myers for a Twins spring training game at Hammond Stadium.
Seats behind home plate, in the shade. yay!
The stadium received a nice renovation during the off season, including a boardwalk all the way around.

It was different watching a game where we didn't care which team won.  At least we were able to applaud a good play and drink expensive beer and eat crappy, expensive food.

They have very strange artwork in the lady's restroom.

It was a picture perfect day.  The Twins beat the Marlins 4 - 2.

We were home by 4:30, Wendy and Dan took a quick trip to Beall's but came home empty handed.

We went to dinner at The IceHouse Pub, one of our favorite places in Punta Gorda. While we were waiting for a table, we had time to try our hands at darts.
"I think it's a dart board, what do you think?"

Bulls-eye!
AND the winners are...
Boy, did we get lucky!
From there we dragged them to the Celtic Ray, our other favorite place.  One of the bands we discovered was Flurgin, a kind of Dropkick Murphy's Irish band.  We thoroughly enjoyed them last year but this year, not so much.
They were at least 30 minutes late getting started and were very loud.  I hate it when I can't hear the singing because the music is so loud and it just sounds like screaming.  Dan said he enjoyed the people watching; I think he was being polite.  They were both cold and Wendy had a headache, as did I.  We lasted till 10:15 and headed home.

Last year we had a blast at the St. Patrick's Day celebration; this year was disappointing.
