The Saddest Excuse...

for a tomato plant I have ever seen.
It is, however, upstaged by the equally sad looking broccoli plant.
Technically, the plant doesn't look that bad but there is absolutely NO sign of any broccoli.

We have come to the conclusion that we don't have any appropriate place in the yard to actually grow vegetables.  Next year we will dismantle the raised garden and plant grass.  That is something we can grow.

Fun at Camp 2012

For nearly 30 years our family has spent one week in August on Pequawket Pond in Brownfield, ME.  Hard to believe that I never took a picture of the camp itself (although I KNOW there is one somewhere but I can't.find.it!!)  This is the camp next door.  The kids rented this place last year, while Bill and I stayed at the "old" camp.  This year, we rented the "new" camp for a week and the kids rented it the next week.

Although the weather was less than perfect, with some of this almost every day
Rain, rain...GO AWAY!
we still managed to have a good time.

We brought Scott and Trevor up with us on Saturday and took them home Monday evening.  I finally got a picture of the three of them for the Christmas card.

had a good time jumping from the dock

swimming and diving for a lone golf ball

doing some fishing with Papa Bill
and playing war with his dad.
It actually took them a whole lot longer to set this up than it did to destroy it.  They crammed quite a bit of fun into two days.

Then it was just the two of us for the rest of the week.  It was awesome to wake up with a view of the lake at our feet!  We spent time reading, soaking up the sun, floating on the lake and eating.  Wendy visited for a few hours on Friday, one of the sunny days.

The kids came up on Saturday and we stayed until dinner in order to visit with everyone.

Ella was quite the fashionista and very personable.
We continued our tradition of family photos on the dock.

Baseball & Pizza Pie

Not exactly the all American baseball and apple pie but just as good.  We went to the Portland Seadogs game today with the Animal Welfare Society, a so called "Team Building Exercise".
I blame the hairdo on stupid humidity

Self explanatory
We sat in the picnic area and enjoyed "all you can eat" hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ pulled chicken, beans, cole slaw, drinks and Seadog biscuits (chocolate chip cookies with ice cream in the middle).  I thought the chicken was really tasty!  We sat at picnic tables while eating but also had regular seats down the first base line.

It was quite warm very hot and humid, although there was a decent breeze.  The Seadogs were ahead 10 - 1 when we left around 3:00.  We considered returning home since we didn't really need anything to eat but since Wendy had let the dog out and we didn't HAVE to hurry home, we decided to visit Ft. Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth.  We agreed we haven't been there in years.

What a beautiful day!  We enjoyed the sun and sea smells, sat on a bench and people watched for awhile and walked along the Cliff Walk.

Lots of beach roses

They are doing a lot of landscaping and the Cliff Walk area is nearly finished.

It looks much nicer in person with lots of stone walks and outcroppings.

From there we headed to The Flatbread Co.  We arrived early enough that there was no wait and we got a good seat with a nice view of the ferry dock.
I ordered a "real" beer but can't remember the name.  It is, however, served with a slice of lemon.  We ordered the homemade sausage pizza which comes with caramelized onions and other stuff I can't remember either.  Their pizzas are cooked in a brick oven and they are delicious!

You can see the steam rising
It was a great day to be outside and it was nice not to have to hurry home to let the dog out.  Thanks Wendy xoxo

Ten Years and Counting

Today marks ten years since I went on a date with the nicest, most polite man I have ever known.  Well, technically it's not really today but since neither of us can remember the exact date (I think it's one date and Bill thinks it's another) he says we agreed on August 1st.  I don't remember that either but I probably did ;o)

Anyway,  we have enjoyed a good ten years.  We have traveled to many places...
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens...Boothbay, ME
Jamestown Settlement, VA
Abiquiu, NM
New York City, NY
Battleship North Carolina, Willmington, NC
Massanutten, VA
Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada
We've been to Tennessee and Old Quebec, Canada and probably a few other places.  We traveled a lot more often when we were both working full time and we didn't have a dog to worry about.

Sir Titan of Nottingham
We have both experienced the birth of a grandchild...
Trevor and Papa Bill
Ella and Kiki
Both Greg and Wendy got married...
Vanessa & Greg 7/7/06
Wendy & Dan 8/23/11
We are such a good couple, enjoying so many of the same things...
hiking
hiking (Mt. Major, NH)
 and biking
Eastern Trail (Kennebunk to Saco)
even laying in the sun at the beach
Gasparilla Island, FL
We are looking forward to the next ten years.  (TEN YEARS...where does the time go???)

Happy Anniversary to the man who loves me more than I love myself.

Happy Anniversary, Bill!  xoxoxo

Love, Kathy
