Wells Beach Bike Ride 7/30/12

Woke up to a spectacular day!  We had talked earlier in the week about going for a bike ride and today's weather made it a necessity.  After stopping at Tully's to purchase a bottle of Riesling for our visit with Lori tomorrow night, we headed down the Mile Road toward Wells Beach.  I had forgotten how much traffic there is during the summer and on more than one occasion had to ask myself "Who's idea was this anyway?"  Since it was mine, I couldn't complain to anyone.  haha  At the end of Mile Road, we took a left and rode to the parking lot where we stopped to use the restroom and have a small snack.
Parking is now handled by a "Pay Here" booth where you put in your life savings and get a ticket to park.  If you buy your ticket between 8am and 11:59, it's $16.00 freaking dollars to park until 5pm.  If you buy your ticket between noon and 2:59, it's $8.00 until 5pm.  Between 3 and 5 it's $2.50/hour.  That is exactly why we don't go to the beach in Maine.  In the winter, we pay between $.75/hour and FREE!  It's a total ripoff and there is absolutely no benefit if you are a Maine resident and pay taxes.

From there we rode back to Mile Road, crossed over and rode along the sea wall, where we stopped again to enjoy a few minutes of sun and the smell of the beach.
The perfect beach day! (although not a perfect picture)
Since it was close to low tide, there was lots of beach to be enjoyed.  We rode a little further, then headed back to Mile Road and back to the car.  Since the tide was out there was a lot of grass to be seen and I think this is one of my favorite views.
I fell in love with the different hues of green and the grass looked like it was having a bad hair day, some going this way and some going that way.  It looks soft and silky and was waving in the breeze.  Really an awesome scene.

Our trip lasted about 1 1/2 hours and was just enough peddling, considering I still had Zumba to look forward to.

Thanks for stopping by...
;o)
