The Martineau's Come to Visit...Day 7, Last Day

We walked around Ollie's Pond since it will be the last cool day for awhile.  Ran into Wendy and Dan about half way around.  We had coffee on the harbor, got lunch at Arby's and ate in the truck, then did a little shopping at WM.  Sat outside and read for awhile and played with Tessa.  Bill took her for a walk, we fed her early and left her in her crate while we met Wendy and Dan at The Celtic Ray for dinner.

We met them at 6:00 and sat in one of the new gliders in front.  Our drinks looked nice in the late afternoon sun. 

Wendy and Dan had fish tacos, Bill had chicken fingers and I had the fish and chips.  After a great meal, we walked to the Harbor Scoops ice cream shop and Wendy treated us all to ice cream.  Yum!

It was a nice warm evening and we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset, one of the few we've seen this winter.

We met them back at their rental to pick up a few things, said our goodbyes and were home by 8:30.  

So nice to have them here, always sad to see them leave.

The Martineau's Come to Visit...Day 6

We met at Ollie's Pond at 11:00 and walked around the mile loop.

While other sections are more secluded.

Bill, Tessa and I only went around once, Wendy and Dan went around again after we left.  They planned to spend the afternoon hanging out by the pool.

We got our coffees and sat on a bench at Bayshore Park, rather than in the truck, which is where we've sat most days.  

Wendy and Dan came over around 5:30 for dinner.  Bill grilled fillets to go along with the twice baked potatoes.  They brought green beans from the farmer's market, ice cream and a flourless torte.  We ate at 6:00, played three games of dominoes, had dessert and played three more games of dominoes. 

Of course, we had to celebrate Wendy's birthday again, with candles this time ;o)

We did have this outtake of Dan with torte on his teeth, which I didn't notice until Wendy mentioned it.

Dan won dominoes, Bill lost, again.  Dominoes is not Bill's game.  However, he's a good sport and a good loser (unlike someone we know who shall remain nameless.)

The Martineau's Come to Visit...Day 2

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  May the luck of the Irish be with you!

We dropped Tessa at daycare, then headed to the "kids" rental, arriving a little after 11:00.  We took our traditional photos in front of the garage door, for lack of a better backdrop. ;o). 

This one is kinda blurry for some reason ;o(

From there we headed to The Celtic Ray for the St. Patricks' Day party and it is a party!!!

We didn't find our great places in the shade from last year but our location was next to it and it wasn't terrible, just more sun.  We had a good view of the stage and there was lots of people watching.

We were on a hill but not so steep that we slid out of our chairs.

The guys got in line for food right away, because the line can get really long.  This year it took less than 30 minutes and would have been faster but Bill had to wait for a fresh batch of fish to be prepared.  The price was the same as last year ($18) and you get more than enough food!

Wendy also had the corned beef and Dan had chicken fingers, which he said were really good.  Unfortunately, my plate was literally disintegrating from the juice and it was difficult to cut anything with a big hole in the middle of the plate.  Amazingly, I managed to keep everything off my clothes.

Bill and I drank cranberry juice and ginger ale, while Wendy and Dan enjoyed the adult beverages, along with plenty of water.  It was hot again this year, mid 80's.

We stayed until about 4:00, dropped them off, used the bathroom, checked out the new lanai, then headed to pick up Tessa.  We got home by 5:15, better than last year when we didn't get home till 9ish. 

Such a fun day, can't wait till next year!

Saturday Already!?

Once again we find ourselves at Mercer's for our coffee and cribbage and sometimes a cookie. ;o) 

While I started out behind and stayed that way nearly the entire game, somehow I finished first.  One good hand apparently...

Another trip around the sun has been completed by my guy, Bill.  Where does the time go anyway?

We walked Tessa around a couple of blocks in the neighborhood then packed her off to daycare at Camp Bow Wow.  From there, we wandered around Fisherman's Village for the first time this year.  It has changed a lot; they are working hard at making it more "upscale".  

The sweet shop had a makeover and looks nice with lots of yummy fudge, gelato and miscellaneous sweets.  We were good and left with nothing.  

One of the brand spanking new bars at the far end has already gone under.  Maybe Covid killed it...  

I was going to buy the traditional Punta Gorda t-shirts for the guys but they didn't have both of the ones I wanted in a medium, so we'll have to go back.  

Bill requested to have lunch at The Icehouse Pub, so that's what we did.  We sat in the outside section which was pretty comfortable, considering how hot it was. I had the chicken caesar wrap and Bill had the burger. 

From there, we went to the TnD Bakery to order gluten free bread for Wendy and Dan's visit.  We can pick it up on Saturday.  

Next stop was Sam's Club for gas ($3.09/gal), turkey for dog food, bacon and chips.  Bill waited in the truck for me while I spent some time in Marshall's looking for tops, which I did not find.  I did, however, buy some dog treats.  

We picked Tessa up, then went to Publix, where I ran in and picked up a small cake for dessert later.  it is a birthday day after all.

I sat outside with my coffee and book when we got home; Bill talked to his sister, then took Tessa for a walk.  

We had popcorn for dinner and cake for dessert.  Not a very exciting birthday day but Bill said it was perfect..."I didn't do anything I didn't want to do".  Guess one can't ask for more than that.

Happy Valentine's Day

Cooler today so we took Tessa for a longer walk along the Linear Path and around the block.  We stopped at Landmark to drop off some mail that we thought belonged to the owner but Trisha said she had no idea who it was.  Drove uptown to the In A Pickle food truck, which Bill is dying to try.  Unfortunately, the operator posted on FB that he wouldn't be there today due to a sick child.  So, we got Arby's and sat in the truck to eat.  Ugh.  Normally we might search out a nice neighborhood park but there was a lot of smoke in the area due to some controlled burns. 

Once home, I made the bed and Bill put the trash out.  I sat outside with my coffee and book, then played with Tessa while the coast was clear next door.  

The three of us left around 3:15 and headed to Venice for our annual Valentine's Day sunset.  Not quite the same having Tessa with us but we made it work.  We walked down the opposite side of the street, Bill found a bench to wait on and I crossed over to Ciao Gelato for our traditional sweet treat.  Bill got chocolate and I got half chocolate and half sea salt caramel.  I usually take a picture but I forgot.  We hung out at the bench while we ate.  Bill tied Tessa's leash to the bench and she was actually pretty good.  She gets pretty excited when other dogs come by but she is somewhat easily redirected.  She thinks she would like gelato, too.

We didn't do any window shopping and I didn't get to wander through the quilt shop.  We did walk to the bathrooms, then back to the truck along a less busy side street which had some grass and we were hoping Tessa would pee.  She did not. haha We were nearly run over, while in the crosswalk, by a driver that was blinded by the sun.  

We arrived at the jetty around 5:00 and found a nice spot in the front row.  We sat on a bench on the jetty side and watched the boats going in and out.  We spotted dolphins and a manatee, which was cool.  Tessa enjoyed sitting on the bench with us.  Around 5:45 we walked down the road, on the side with grass, giving Tessa time to sniff and explore and pee.  Again...she did not.  Back to the truck, Bill stayed with her for awhile and I found a nice rock on which to perch.  No way was I sitting in the truck on the warmest Valentine's night in a few years.  69* ;o)

Bill gave Tessa the treat bone we brought, then joined me around 6:10 for the 6:20 sunset.  There wasn't a cloud in the sky, which means an unexciting sunset but there was a lot of smoke, so the sunset was kind of orange.  Not the best but not the worst either.  We have got to remember to stay at least thirty minutes after sunset for the best "after show" color!

We headed home at 6:40 and arrived by 7:30.  I took a shower, then made popcorn for dinner.

This Was Not Fun...

Another Saturday at Mercer's for coffee and cribbage.  We added another "C" today and had a chocolate chip cookie.  Technically, I think that's really three "C's".  haha

I was soundly beaten the first game.  It's hard to compete with an opponent that keeps counting 12 or 16 or 20.

I only needed to count 2 to win but Bill counted first, another freakin' 16,  to finish first.  Honestly, I was pissed!

He had face cards and fives and runs, one after another, after another, after another.  It's so frustrating.  He says is just luck.  Yeah, okay, but why is it "just luck" constantly for the same person?!

It's Acadia Time...Day Five

Up before 8:30 to bright skies and blowing winds.  

It was warm enough this morning that I was able to sit outside with my coffee.

We had talked about going for a bike ride on Schoodic but decided it was too windy and it would be chilly, so we decided to hike Homans Path, to Emery Path, then back to Sieur de Monts.  

We left Edgewater at 11:07, 59* winds @ 11mph.  We drove the long way around, through the park to Rt. 3, then back to Sieur de Monts where we actually found a parking place fairly quickly.  Parked at 11:48, warmed up to 63*.  

We used the bathroom, then headed along the Jessup Path to the Tarn, where we realized we had gone the wrong direction.

Sooo, we checked our map, turned around and walked the right direction to the Homans Path trailhead.

The path was predominantly granite steps uphill for .4 of a mile.  

We were pleasantly surprised to see this on the path.

I felt like this tree was still reaching for the sky, although it had seen better days.

Look at that beautiful blue sky.  What you don't see is the wind...

Then we came across this

Next stop...the end of Homans Path at 1:04, 63* winds @ 14.

There was a beautiful view of The Great Meadow and the Porcupine Islands.

We sat here and ate our snacks before heading down the Emery Path.  Two bald eagles were soaring nearby.

The way down started with this nice flat section, then the steps returned.

Then we were done, reaching the Sieur de Monts spring and the Emery Path trailhead at 1:36.

As we reached the parking lot, a ranger was excorting a cormorant through the driveway toward the grass.

We've never seen anything like that before.

We left the parking lot at 2:10 and drove to Charlotte's Legendary Lobster Pound in SW Harbor where we sat outside for lunch.  Bill had the clam roll and I had the shrimp roll.  They were yummy.

From there, we drove on to the beach at Seawall.  We sat at one of the picnic tables, ate our chocolate chip cookies from Local 130 in Shapleigh and read for about an hour.  It is such a beautiful, quiet place.

We left at 4:42 and drove back to Edgewater, arriving around 5:20. 64* winds @ 11.

We got most of our stuff packed, ready to leave in the morning.  We ate late so had cheese and crackers for "dinner".  

Another trip to Acadia in the books.
